Couples Therapy
Therapy for couples working through conflict, communication, or attachment patterns.
How it helps
Our couples work integrates two evidence-based approaches: the Gottman Method (40+ years of relationship research; specific protocols for friendship, conflict, and shared meaning) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT — Sue Johnson; structured protocols for relationship distress and repair).
Sessions are 75 minutes (longer than individual work). We see both partners together except where clinical indication suggests otherwise.
Who it's for
Couples wanting a structured space to address recurring conflict, intimacy, or life-stage stress.
What it helps with
- Recurring conflict
- Communication breakdown
- Loss of intimacy
- Trust & affair recovery
- Life transitions
- Parenting stress
- Pre-commitment
What to expect
Joint session
Both partners attend. We map the cycle you get stuck in and what each of you needs.
Individual check-ins
A brief separate session each, so we understand both perspectives and any individual factors.
Structured work
Gottman- and EFT-informed sessions rebuild friendship, manage conflict, and deepen connection.
Consolidation
You leave with shared tools and a plan for keeping the relationship on track.
Fees & funding
Couples therapy is generally not Medicare-rebatable, because the rebate applies to a diagnosed individual condition rather than the relationship. Some private health 'extras' policies contribute — check with your insurer. We'll confirm the fee before your first session.
